The region of Zbudovská Blata including its residents became known throughout Czech society at the beginning of the 20th century mainly thanks to the efforts of writers K. Klostermann and J. Holeček. The purpose of this essay is to recall the key circumstance of the literal presentation of the rural environment, which was a departure from romantic historicism of the 19th century, and to describe the role which the writers above bestowed upon the Blata residents in the context of Czech-speaking society. While Holeček used the Blata surroundings for purposes of a multifaceted polemic with the aristocracy, the conciliatory Klostermann created a timeless symbol from that same environment, thanks to which he secured a permanent place in Czech culture with his novel Mlhy na Blatech (Mist over Blata).

Bibliographic Citation Josef Max and Czech Sculpture in the Second Third of the 19th Century [manuscript]: Bachelor's Thesis / Adam Hnojil; Thesis supervisor: PhDr. Milan Pech, Ph.D. Prague, 2016, 225 p. Anotation This monographic study aims to describe and interpret the sculpture work of the leading Czech artist from the second third of the 19th century. The thesis is focused on his life and work in the context of the late neoclassicism and romantic historicism. In the first part the author is analyzed within the framework of the Czech art history. Follows the discussion of the stylistic ambiguities of the artistic pluralism of the 19th century, which is causing problems with clear definition of styles up to these days. The very core of the work lies in a biographical study reflecting the life of the North Bohemian native and his most important works, among which the most prominent are the memorial sculptures in the Czech lands and abroad. Life in memories (Presentation of the ancietry and the nobility of the Buquoys, the Czernins of Chudenice and the Schwarzenbergs)

During the ``long{\crqq} 19th century, when the principle of nobility as such was in great danger, aristocrats wanted to demonstrate the importance of their family. To do so, they used various forms of the presentation: the appearance of rural residences, building family tombs and participation in exhibitions with historical themes. This thesis takes an interest in the forms of presentation of the nobility by three South-Bohemian noble families {--} Buquoys, Czernins of Chudenice and Schwarzenbergs. It focuses not only on the building activity of aristocrats and the visual representation of the ancientry and the nobility but also on the literary work of archivists and other forms of the presentation. In the 19th century the manors were redone in style of historicism, however, an important role was played by the proprietors themselves, their (artistic) hobbies and ideas about history. In some cases this thesis also uncovers the inspirations and motives that led (the members of the South-Bohemian aristocracy) to such demanding reconstructions.
